Firstly, alimex established themselves as a retailer, then as a processor and finally as a producer of aluminium cast plates.
Founded in 1970, in Bad Homburg by Helmut Geller, the Aluminium Import Export (al-im-ex) GmbH initially operated in the international aluminium trading business. In 1984, Helmut Geller revolutionized the manufacturing process of aluminium cast plates and established the ACP 5080 and ACP 5080R cast plates as the producer in the European market.
The opening of the first manufacturing sites in Willich near Düsseldorf in the same year marked the first step to becoming a globally successful manufacturer of high-precision aluminium cast plates. Quickened by the enormous demand of this niche product, alimex extended their manufacturing units to slabs and cuts, as well as the CNC component production range and for the aviation industry.
Product quality and occupational safety were the top priorities in building the modern facilities and workshops. Today more than 200 employees in an over 40,000 m² production area work at the main site in Willich near Düsseldorf. The operational and administrative department was dedicated in 2008, and is the latest site to have been built.
