The Fastest Aluminium is Traveling at a Speed of Mach 1.4

The Fastest Aluminium in the World! The BLOODHOUND SSC will be more advanced than most spacecraft and even faster than a bullet fired from a Magnum 357 handgun.

alimex are proud to have become a product sponsor of the BLOODHOUND SSC
Project by supporting the construction team of this iconic super sonic car with
high quality aluminium. alimex will be taking part when the new vehicle
achieves its target of 1,050 mph (1,690 kmh) and marks the greatest incremental
increase in the history of the World Land Speed Records.

In trying to set what research suggests may be the ultimate land speed record, a team
of British engineers, designers, mathematicians and technologists lead by Project Director
Richard Noble hope to tell a new story of achievement that will fascinate and inspire
all those who hear it.

At 12.8m long, and weighing 6,422kg (fully fuelled), the jet engined and rocket-powered
vehicle BLOODHOUND SSC car will be more advanced than most spacecraft, even faster
than a bullet fired from a Magnum 357 handgun and will incidentally also exceed the
current low altitude speed record for aircraft (c.994mph).

Its 900mm diameter wheels will turn at over 10,000 rpm, generating 50,000 radial ‘G’
at the rims. The car will accelerate from 0 – 1,050mph in 40 seconds and at maximum
velocity the pressure of air bearing down on its carbon fiber and titanium bodywork
will exceed twelve tones per square meter.

At this speed, the driver, Wing Commander Andy Green (who holds the current land
speed record of 763mph (1228kmh) at the controls of Thrust SSC on 15th October 1997)
which we also supported, will be covering a distance equivalent to over four and half
football pitches every second, or 50m in the blink of an eye.

The BLOODHOUND SSC Project is an inspirational engineering adventure that will push
the bounds of technology to there limit, designing; building and running BLOODHOUND
SSC will be a unique challenge. Joined by the philosophy to find solutions for innovative,
dynamic and future-oriented applications, which is the reason that alimex decided to
become part of this fascinating three year mission.

Building a car which is quicker than a fighter jet is not simply however the primary goal
of this project, rather, it is a unique opportunity to inspire future generations in schools,
colleges and universities to take up careers in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics by showcasing these subjects in the most dramatic and exciting way possible.
